What it is
Wisdom teeth usually arrive between 17 and 25. Many come through fine; others get stuck, push against the next tooth, or trap food and cause infections. A simple x-ray tells us which yours are, and most removals can be done comfortably here in the practice.
What to expect
-
An assessment with a full-mouth x-ray to see the position of the teeth and their roots, and a clear recommendation.
-
Removal under local anaesthetic, with the option of sedation if you are anxious or we are removing several at once.
-
The appointment takes thirty to ninety minutes depending on the teeth. You go home the same day with written aftercare and pain relief.
-
Expect swelling and soreness for three to five days. Most people are back at work or school within two to three days.
Common questions
Do all wisdom teeth need to come out?
No. If they have come through straight and you can clean them, we leave them alone and keep an eye on them at check-ups.
Will I be asleep?
You can choose. Local anaesthetic alone is enough for most single extractions. For multiple or difficult teeth we offer sedation with a visiting anaesthetist, or a referral to an oral surgeon.
What does it cost?
From $350 per tooth for a simple removal and from $650 for a surgical one. We quote exactly after the x-ray. Sedation is extra and quoted separately.
