A pathology collection room operates in the practice on weekday mornings, run by an independent laboratory. If your doctor orders a blood test you can usually have it taken straight after your appointment, and results come back to your doctor directly.
What it includes
- Blood collection for all routine tests
- Urine, swab and other sample collection
- Fasting blood tests from 08:00
- Glucose tolerance tests (allow two hours)
- Results sent electronically to your doctor, usually within two working days
Who it is for
Anyone with a pathology request form, from our doctors or elsewhere.
How to book
No appointment needed: the collection room is open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 12:30. Bring your request form and sit in the pathology waiting area.
Common questions
Do I need to fast?
Only for some tests. Your request form will say “fasting” if so; that means nothing except water for 10 to 12 hours beforehand. Morning appointments make this easier.
Can I get my results from the collection room?
No. Results go to the doctor who ordered the test, who will contact you if anything needs follow-up. See the results section on the patient information page.
